The Scottish-born surveyor and engineer, Alexander Nimmo who was born in Fife in 1783, was the engineer responsible for the planning and supervising of the construction of Kenmare Pier in 1825; at a cost of 2,100 pounds, of which the Marquess of Lansdowne contributed £1,200. This was one of Nimmo’s last projects in Ireland.
